The article considers one of the first Late Antiquity attempts to create a monastic library — in Vivarium of Cassiodorus. The library of Vivarium is shown as the base of the theological school Cassiodorus tried to create in Italy, in the sixth century. The following issues are studied in the article: the sources of the library book collection, measures to supplement its funds, availability of the books of pagan authors and heretics in the monastic library. Besides, such issues as the use of Greek manuscripts, principles of copying and correction of texts, creation of new Bible books exegeses are taken into consideration.
