The research object of this work is the activity of the Union of Heraldists of Russia — a public organization engaged in the development and creation of coats of arms, emblems and flags of the subjects of the Russian Federation, municipalities of various levels of the country. For the first time in the historiography of Russian heraldry, the history and development of this public organization, established in 1992, is considered; a comprehensive analysis of various activities of the Union is given. The contribution of its members to the development of modern territorial heraldry is shown. The role of the Union in the study of theoretical and methodological problems of heraldry, vexillology, faleristics and other auxiliary historical disciplines is noted. Much attention is paid to the organizational activities of the Union in the association of heraldists of various regions of the country, publishing and educational activities of the Union to educate various strata of citizens of the country in the history of their Fatherland.
