The article discusses the concept of subjective modality. It is proved that subjectivity in the components of objective and subjective-modal meanings serves as a good reason to consider the category of modality as a single systemic macroformation. It is explained that changing ideas about the optional nature of subjective-modal meanings allows one to fruitfully study the category on the basis of text and discourse. It is argued that the study of assessment in the framework of research on the study of the modality of the text is due to the organic connection of these categories.
