Pikin A. V. Response to Chalcedon? The embassy of Leo the Great to Attila and its place in the discussion of the canon 28 of the Council of Chalcedon

The author of the article considers the question of necessity for Pope Leo the Great to participate personally in the embassy to Attila in 452. The history of the embassy is considered not only from the political expediency, but also in the context of the struggle of the Roman Holy See for leadership in the Church in connection with the 28 canon adopted by the Council of Chalcedon, which equalized Rome and Constantinople. The article proves that the participation of Pope Leo in the embassy was his personal initiative and could be explained by the desire of the Roman pontiff, taking on the functions of a politician of the imperial level, to put himself above any other primate of the Church.
