In this article, the author reveals the options for constructing and modeling the meanings of the city in the human mind by presenting a system-semiotic vision of the urbosphere. The author raises the problem of perception of urban identity based on the language of cognition of the city. The phenomenon of urban identity is an urgent topic in urban studies, an interdisciplinary resource for constructing the meanings of the city. “The language of the city” and “the city as a text” are the key narratives of comprehending the meanings of urban identity. The article substantiates strategies for identifying a person's identity in the conditions of the urbosphere. In the proposed perspective of constructing the meanings of the city, the system-semiotic method of searching for conceptual, structural and substrate meanings of the urbosphere is used. The concept of a city means the goal-setting parameters of its existence. The structural foundations of the city are revealed in the senses of the relationship “man — city — society”. The vectors of the structural values of urban life for a person are represented.
