The author focuses on the consciousness dynamics of the technical university students, discovered over the past three decades through the work of the university student philosophical club. It is shown that the mental changes, on the one hand, are generated by the information revolution, and on the other hand, reflect changes in the economic, political and spiritual life of Russian society. The author considers the «clip» style of perception of information and thinking, the reduction of verbal communication, the replacement of a word by a visual image as the main shifts. These cognitive transformations are revealed in the absence of adequate attention to the written and oral text; substitution of coherent, syntactically correct speech with separate concepts; lack of independent conclusions, arguments, «judgment». The author comes to the conclusion about the need for creative forms of intellectual communication of university students, such as philosophical club, which creates conditions for restoring the balance between «word» and «figure» — the humanitarian and technical components of the mental culture and the scientific and technical creativity of the future engineer.
Key words: philosophical student club, informational revolution, clip style of thinking, Internet, gadget, university education, intellectual communication,
