The subject of the author’s analysis is the list of the 100 best Russian universities in 2020. The material focuses on medical universities that train personnel for the «frontline» of pandemic war. The specificity of medical education in relation to student volunteers has been noted. It is shown that the rating of higher educational institutions of a medical profile makes it possible to carry out not only an analysis of their status, but also the dynamics of their advancement. A comparative analysis of various ratings, as well as a comprehensive consideration of the corresponding ranking parameters, are presented as a methodological basis for the study. The growing demand for knowledge about a person and his health has been stated. It is emphasized that meeting this social demand is the contribution of «university medicine» to ensuring global and national security. It is concluded that domestic medical education has been able to provide personnel for the system of anti-pandemic measures, thanks to the «zemstvo» and «soviet» foundations rooted in it.
