Based on the unpublished archival materials of the Heraldry Department stored in the Russian State Historical Archive, the article aims to analyze the projects for reforming the coats of arms of the Vladimir province, developed in the second half of the 19th century by Boris Vasilyevich Kone (1817—1886), the head of the Heraldry Department of the Senate. The article examines the main directions of changes to the existing coats of arms and provides a detailed analysis of the external decorations and heraldic figures of the projects for the coats of arms of the county towns and settlements of the province. The article also highlights the typical features of Kone's creative style as a herald. The article summarizes the results of B.V. Kone's reform of Russian heraldry in general and the heraldry of the Vladimir province in particular. It shows the possibilities of using the developed projects in modern municipal heraldry.
