Suvorova N.V. Folk names of the Christian holiday of the Nativity of the Pre-Holy Virgin in Russian and Polish (linguistic and cultural aspect)

This article discusses the Russian and Polish folk names of the Christian holiday of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In order to reveal the linguistic and cultural specificity of these formations, the structural and semantic features of commonly used and geographically limited names of this memorable date are analyzed. Based on the component analysis, it is established that a significant number of Russian and Polish folk names are characterized by similarities in composition and internal form. The general motivational signs underlying these innovations indicate the person and event to which the holiday is dedicated. As a result of a comparative analysis of the Russian and Polish dialect names of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, differences in their semantics due to extralinguistic reasons were established. Differences in the motivation of geographically limited naming options for the memorial date under consideration are related to the spiritual and culturalhistorical traditions of the Russian and Polish peoples.
