The article deals with the problem of semiotic development as constituting the type of evolution characteristic of Homo sapiens. It is noted that over the past two centuries, development has been interpreted as mainly linear and irreversible. At the same time, it was overlooked that semiotic development has its own characteristics, expressed in the enrichment of the system of means of human interaction with both the subject environment and other subjects that create and create human culture. The author’s concept of controlled semiosis is presented, according to which the highest levels of development of the semiotic (sign-symbolic) function require special formation. At the same time, they can be the basis for the formation of personality subjectivity in different types of activities.
