The article discusses the creation and functioning of the Ivanovo branch of the Bureau of International Youth Tourism “Sputnik”. First of all, attention is paid to the implementation of one of the main areas of activity — international youth exchange of socialist and capitalist states. Documents of the State Archive of the Ivanovo Region and local periodicals, sources of personal origin (memoirs of those who worked in this period in “Sputnik”) are put into scientific circulation. Issues related to the organizational and economic aspects of activities, the ideological component, the selection of candidates for travel, and the possibilities of receiving tourists directly in the Ivanovo region are investigated. The main attention is paid to the analysis of the work of the Bureau in two main areas of its activity — the organization of trips abroad and the reception of young people in Ivanovo. The article shows the features of approaches to the development of different types of travel routes to socialist and capitalist states. The article comes to the conclusion about the usefulness and timeliness of the creation of such structures as “Sputnik” at the final stage of the development of Soviet society.
