The article raises a number of topical issues in modern linguistics related to the comparative study of closely related languages. In the lexical system of each language, the naming of festive dates (georthonyms) occupies an important place. Forming an integral part of the linguistic picture of the world, they make it possible to detect both similarities and differences of linguistic cultures of peoples. This article is devoted to a comparative analysis of the Russian and Polish nominations of the religious holiday of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The novelty of the work consists in the fact that for the first time universal and specific features in the naming of the specified memorable date are revealed on the material of two related languages: East Slavic (Russian) and West Slavic (Polish). As a result of a comparative analysis of the features of the semantics and structure of the Russian and Polish names of the holiday of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, similarities in the component composition of official georthonyms in both languages, as well as differences in the semantics of the folk names of this religious holiday were established. Extralinguistic factors that determined the specifics of the mechanism of the nomination of the specified memorable date in the Russian and Polish languages are revealed. The dissimilarities of the names of the holiday of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary are due, on the one hand, to the belonging of the Russian Church to the Orthodox branch of the Christian religion, and the Polish to the Catholic, on the other hand, to the difference in the mentality of the peoples.
