The preservation in the historical memory of a people of a whole group of ayings dedicated to one family is an exceptional phenomenon. The author has made the first attempt to analyze the entire complex of sayings about the Stroganovs. The purpose of the article is to identify which aspects of the Stroganovs' activities are reflected in folklore. It turns out that the surviving sayings characterize the main elements of the Stroganovs' activities that have become widely known: their enormous wealth, built on the salt trade; the exceptional orderliness of their economic organization; the high level of architecture and organization of the
Stroganov estates; the creation of a unique style in Old Russian icon painting; and their status and exceptional position.
