The article addresses the problem of international relations ethos through the prism of the cognitive-semiotic approach. A definition of the symbolic ethos of international relations is proposed in comparison with the political ethos. The specificity of ethos — in comparison with habitus — is stated; the refraction of this discourse in the cinema space of the Cold War is shown. The film-ethos models are listed, its basic characteristic is given in the context of a systematic approach. Theoretical calculations are supported by the analysis of two cinematic cases (American and Soviet).
