The article attempts to define the concept of “non-academic philosophy”. It is noted that this concept is found both in public discourse and in research works of domestic and foreign authors. However, it remains a concept without more or less clear definition. Meanwhile, non-academic philosophy is a significant socio-cultural phenomenon that deserves closer research attention. Its significance is confirmed, for example, by the following circumstance: first of all, through non-academic philosophy, the so-called wide circle of readers gets acquainted with philosophical ideas, with its help they try to comprehend their life and their place in the world, answer «eternal questions». In addition, non-academic philosophy has a significant impact on academic philosophical discourse. The article highlights and analyzes the essential and interconnected features of non-academic philosophy, allowing to define it. The approaches to non-academic philosophy present in the domestic research narrative are summarized. An increase in the importance of non-academic philosophical practices within the general philosophical discourse in modern conditions (the development of social media, etc.) is noted. The research methodology, in particular, is a systematic approach, according to which the concept is recognized as a system-forming property. Identification of the concept allows one to approach the question of the phenomenon’s definition.
