Sadvokassova Z. T. Orthodox missionary institutions in Kazakhstan (XIX — early XX centuries)

The missionary activity of Orthodox preachers among the non-native peoples of the national regions of the Russian Empire was carried out in parallel with the intervention in economic life, with the introduced reforms in the management of the region, changes in the spiritual sphere, etc. The situation of Islam and its adherents with the arrival of Russian officials, Cossacks and peasants with their own religion on the territory of Kazakhstan has not received proper coverage in scientific historical publications. With the collapse of the Soviet state and the rejection of the oneparty system, which had a powerful influence on the research of scientists, they began to turn more and more often to religious topics. In the course of their research, problems were raised that were either banned or in the zone of silence. If in the scientific works of Soviet historians, any denomination was considered, as a counterweight to the communist ideology, then a completely different assessment is given to religions and their spiritual servants in modern works, where their place and role in society are objectively determined. Liturgical institutions, missionary institutions that appeared in areas with Kazakh population in the XIX — early XX centuries, aimed to influence the consciousness of the indigenous people in order to prepare the ground for Christian preaching and convert foreigners to Orthodoxy.
