The article examines the main aspects of the city self-government bodies functioning in Myshkin, Yaroslavl Province, in the years 1870—1914. The main sources
are unpublished business records from the Russian State Historical Archive, the State Archive of the Yaroslavl Region, and its branch in Uglich, as well as local periodicals from the relevant period and statistics. The article identifies the social composition of the city selfgovernment bodies in Myshkin, the structure of the local budget's revenue and expenditure, and the main activities of the city self-government in the areas of urban improvement, education, healthcare. The undertaken research made it possible to establish the time of introducing the “City Regulations” of 1870 in Myshkin. Alongside with that the share of the city's
population that received voting rights was determined, as well as the course of the city elections was revealed. The author identified the main items of the city government's revenue budget, including industrial taxes and indirect taxes on acts, as well as rent items, and examined the amount of arrears in city budget contributions compared to other district cities in the Yaroslavl province. In addition, the author determined the level of illumination and pavement of Myshkin's streets, the amount of money spent by the city government on combating epidemics, funding for primary education in the city, and so on. In conclusion, the article concludes that during the period of the City Regulations of 1870 and 1892, Myshkin had a fairly efficient system of city self-government.
