Logvinova A.A. Anonymous christian authors of agiography tradition in the “Library” of Patriarch Photius

The article discusses the translation of the codes of the famous work of Photius of Constantinople. Codes 252—258 are presented to your attention. They relate to the thematic composition of the martyrologies. As a rule, the martyrology (μαρτύρ, martyr, and λόγος word) is a collection that contains stories about martyrs who suffered for Jesus Christ from the pagans. The most ancient and preserved collection now is the “Book of the Palestinian Martyrs” by Eusebius of Caesarea. The most significant is the “Menologium”, dating from the IX century. The authors of these notes remained unknown to the patriarch but contain valuable information about the life and martyrdom of the saints. The study is interesting because these notes did not reach our time, but remained only in the essays of Photius, which he wrote down in the Myriobiblion. From the point of view of historical analysis, the article gives the characteristics of saints, the meaning in the Orthodox tradition, as well as the attitude of Photius to the information read and comparative records are created.
