The image of a bird is one of the traditional images not only of Russian, but also of world literature and culture. In the novels of Russian classics, he often plays a key role; in modern Russian literature, such an image is also in great demand, for example, in the works of Max Fry, whose works became the object of our research. Despite the fact that the texts belong to the fantasy genre, the classical approach to the embodiment of the image of a bird has been preserved, primarily as a reflection of the heroes' desire for freedom, the search for themselves, the desire to break free from conventions and habits that have become «chains». The image of the bird is primarily associated with the main female character of the cycles about the world of Eho — Melamori Blimm. She will have to part with imaginary ideas about freedom, reconsider the concept of her own being and attitude to the people around her, realize that for a long time she was in captivity of conventions, traditions and habits. The heroine will have to step into the unknown in order to find herself, to turn into a bird as the embodiment of true freedom.
