The English-language prose works of R. Dahl, F. Baum, C. Lewis, E. Burgess, E.I. Wortis were selected as research material, corresponding to the same age criterion and possessing content homogeneity. The analysis showed that the main function of vestimentary descriptions in texts for children is the function of plot development, which depends on the author's intention and can influence the course of the entire narrative. Also, authors of works for children use vestimentary descriptions to create a visual image of characters, displaying their financial situation and social status.
