DOI: 10.46726/H.2026.1.7

This article is devoted to the analysis of lexical units that are iconic and recognizable by the majority of native speakers of a particular language, and are characterized by a stable and reproducible composition. The article examines precedent phenomena, as well as phraseologisms that are part of the cognitive base of a linguistic personality as an implicit element. The article presents a view on the feasibility of including phraseological expressions in the list of precedent phenomena based on their similarities and differences. The research material consists of texts from contemporary English-language newspapers. The use of such lexical units in newspaper discourse adds an additional level of understanding, as they are part of previously perceived texts and evoke the recipient's past experiences. The article emphasizes the importance of understanding the specific features of ethnic linguistic consciousness for effective interaction between representatives of different linguistic and cultural groups. It is revealed that precedent phenomena reflect the values of the target culture.
