The article deals with the role of Scottish language dictionaries in the process of preserving the national language and national culture of Scotland in the context of worldwide globalization and digitalization. The object of the study is the encyclopedic reference books of Scottish language and culture. The methodology of the research is based, primarily, on the method combining theoretical and linguistic analysis of scientific works on the given topic as well as on the method of classification and, consequently, on the principles of lexicographic analysis developed in Russian lexicography and verified in the studies of IvSU professors. Thereupon, a lexicographic analysis of an authoritative encyclopedia for general purposes is carried out. The emergence of the lexicographical tradition in Scotland is also considered, based on the example of author's dictionaries. The article considers the issue of modern trends in
lexicography in the context of anthropocentric orientation of scientific research, the purpose of which is to satisfy the requests and needs of users and expand their number.
