Readers are invited to review the thematic collection of documents “Educational institutions of Arzamas in the XIX — early XX century”, prepared by Arzamas archivists. The review notes the prospects of research at the local level of the education system in pre-revolutionary Russia, highlights the advantages of the named collection and indicates its weaknesses. According to the reviewers, the general conclusion is as follows: the new collection of Arzamas archivists has become a noticeable phenomenon in Nizhny Novgorod archival science and local history, and the documents collected in it have significant value for researchers and are very representative from the point of view of studying the processes of education development in Russia of the XIX — early XX century.
