The article is devoted to the study of the specifics of proper names epithetation in Marina Tsvetaeva’s poetry. The work establishes that a proper name oriented
towards a qualitative characteristic as a result of epithetation appears as a semiotic center of the utterance. The strategies and directions of epithetation in M. Tsvetaeva’s poetry appear as the implementation of the model of constant language renewal, the search for ways of the author's explanation of the semantics of a proper name. Attention is drawn to the subjective significance of proper names for the poet, which affects both their composition and the motivation for associating the attributes associated with them. The article presents an overview of the main directions of proper names epithetation, as well as their linguistic representation. It is noted that in M. Tsvetaeva’s poetry, the actualization of a proper name through its special epithetation is verbalized both by structural methods (ring epithet, repetition of epithets, construction of chains of definitions, addresses, etc.) and semantic ones (selection of epithets-paronyms, play with the meanings of a proper name). It is concluded that epithetation appears to be one of the main ways of searching and actualizing the necessary meaning in M. Tsvetaeva’s poetry and the principle of poetic thinking of the poet’s creativity as a whole.
