The article is devoted to the search for answers to the question of the reasons for the variability in the native speakers’ choice of means and methods for solving specific communicative and cognitive tasks. With this question in mind, the respondents' answers evaluating the degree of their understanding of expressions that the author of the studied human text characterizes as unknown to most native speakers, are analyzed. Based on a comparison of the author's comments on the analyzed linguistic means, on the one hand, and the respondents' comments on the same means, on the other hand, conclusions are drawn regarding the correlation of cognitive, nominative and communicative strategies manifested in linguistic culture through the organization of interactions. The observations on the relationship between the conventional and the creative use of language as a means of cognition and communication are summarized.
