Fokina M. A. Phraseological units with procedural semantics in A. P. Chekhov’s story “The duelˮ

The article presents a comprehensive philological analysis of procedural phraseological units that determine the originality of the narrative structure of A. P. Chekhov's story “The Duel”. The research identifies the narrative properties of dominant phraseological means that create structural and semantic integrity of the third-person narration. The study of the narrative structure of a work focuses on its main components: the type of narrative, the subject of speech, and the narrative point of view. The narrative potential of the analyzed phraseological units highlights their active influence on the composition and content narration. Phraseological units with procedural semantics reveal the conceptual content of the work. The key persistent expressions create the psychologism of the narrative and enhance the dynamics of the action. The psychologism of the artistic narrative is created by textual phraseological repetitions and gradation series, contextual synonymy and evaluative phraseology, which forms the emotivity of the text, conveys the drama of the depicted events and internal anxiety, emotional tension of the characters. Dialogization of the monological word of the third-person narrator is achieved by including nondirect speech, which helps to combine the speech plans of the author and the character. The study of the narrative structures of the story “The Duel” by A. P. Chekhov identified the system of the phraseological figurative and verbal expressions, which have a high narrative potential and provide the structural and semantic unity of the artistic narrative.
