The article – based on the materials of Kineshma – examines previously unexplored issues of changing the tactics of local authorities for the seizure of church valuables after the Shuya events of 13—15.03.1922. The negative attitude of residents of Kineshma to the seizure of church valuables could have lead to anti-Soviet action. Propaganda, military, secret operational and repressive measures of the party and Soviet bodies made it possible to prevent unrest and force Orthodox communities to formally voluntarily surrender silver vestments from icons and church utensils. The paper examines the attitude of Orthodox communities to helping the starving of the Volga region, the procedure and results of the seizure of church valuables in Kineshma. The author concludes that the authorities of Kineshma studied the experience of Shuya events and, without waiting for official instructions from higher authorities, realized their goal of legally robbing Orthodox churches.
