Batueva E.V. Lexical Polysemy in a Technical English Text in the Field of Information Technology

The article examines the causes of lexical polysemy, its functioning in the technical text and ways of translating polysemous words. The relevance of the article
is due to the search for ways to differentiate polysemous words due to the spread of information technology in human life. The author pays attention to the works of eminent linguists, analyzes the phenomenon of polysemy, considers the types of ambiguity, defines linguistic requirements for a technical text, and gives examples from language practice. The author emphasizes the importance of intertextuality in the development of technical vocabulary, which is defined as an unconscious intertextual connection as a result of extensive reading experience. In the translation of technical texts, we find confirmation that the choice of the meaning of a word depends on the context, which helps to understand the semantics of the word. Without understanding the semantic features of words, it is difficult to adequately interpret the transmitted information. In each individual case, it is necessary to take into account the stable compatibility of the word with its environment, i.e., both the context of the sentence and the textual context are very important in order to avoid semantic errors. Excerpts of educational technical texts intended for students studying on the specialty of 09.03.01 “Computer Science and Computer Engineering” served as the material for the study.
