Artamonov A.O. Research of videogame in the context of P. Ricoeur's concept of narrative identity

The research of identity lies in the complex nature of this phenomenon, which unites various disciplines in its pursuit of it, and its location at the junction of rational and irrational, general and individual. Obtaining comprehensive knowledge about the impact of video games on human identity is facilitated by the use of research methods that allow us to look at identity as a story (narrative). Human consciousness is able to form a sequence of specific events, states, and judgments combined into a story in a specific context, which allows us to express identity. In turn, the core of P. Ricoeur's concept of narrative identity is the ability of the narrative of a work to form an additional meaning, which is the product of the interaction of culture as a special symbolic system and a person deciphering signs based on his character, life experience, and the substantial foundations of being. Unlike reading a work of art, the game allows you to act as an active rather than a passive subject and, therefore, reproduces socio-cultural situations in a way that allows the player to better understand such a situation and himself in the process of living it. Having the characteristics of a narrative, a video game is also a source of acquiring meaning and, due to its essential characteristics, such as interactivity, it becomes a new unique means of interpreting oneself.
