This article describes the official and unofficial names of the Orthodox holiday known as Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos. In order to identify the linguoculturological features of these designations, the article analyses the semantics, structure, and functioning of the names of the commemorative date under consideration, which include both a religious and a non-religious component. As a result of comparing the identified heortonyms, similarities were found in the mechanism of nomination of the official and folk names of the holiday known as Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos, which contain the “protection” component. The main motivational features characteristic of these formations indicate the person to whom the memorable date is dedicated, as well as the event whose central figure is the Mother of God. In addition, structural and semantic differences were identified in the unofficial names of the church holiday, conditioned by disparity in the internal form of the lexemes, which reflect the folk-everyday perception of the Orthodox holiday of Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos.
