The article analyzes the process of implementing a New economic policy in road transport of the RSFSR. The specificity of the stated topic lies in the regional approach to its study. In the course of the work, based on archival data, many of which were introduced into scientific circulation for the first time, the historical prerequisites for the introduction of new methods of production organization at automobile transport of Upper Volga Region enterprises and the specifics of their implementation are considered. Special attention is paid to the history of designing and organizing mass production of domestic car brands. Thus, we study the integral historical period of the automotive industry's formation — from the restoration of the first enterprises built during the First World War, which exclusively assembled vehicles from foreign components, to the creation of conveyor production and the transition to a planned economy.
