Zimina M.V., Moskaleva S.I. Features of the translation of the Russian word still into German (based on the material of the novel by M.A. Bulgakov “The Master and Margarita”)

This article examines the ways of translating the Russian word “still” into German based on the material of M.A. Bulgakov's novel “The Master and Margarita” and
its translation into German by R. Schroeder. In the course of the study, the partial belonging of this lexical unit is revealed. All cases of the use of the lexeme “more” in the novel are divided into three groups: an adverb, a particle and the conjunction “still”, which can act in different meanings. Cases are considered when the original part of speech is replaced by another during translation. One of the results of the study is to determine the most frequentways of translating a word into German, namely the use of logical particles noch and schon in translation. Along with the literal translation, the translation transformations associated
with the replacement of this lexeme with other lexical units are also described. Cases of omission of the word “still” in translation are particularly noted, which can lead to a loss of its adequacy and equivalence, as well as to the loss of meanings and their shades realized with the help of the word more and affect the correctness of the transmission of the author's communicative intentions.
