For the first time in the Russian sector of humanities, a detailed review is presented on the subject of preparation and staging the First Post-war Congress of Writers in Germany, held in 1947 in Berlin. The research is based on factual material (materials of the congress — documents, speeches and memories of delegates, responses in the press). The analytical assessment of the event involves a broad historical, cultural and political context of the era, which makes it possible to understand the situation in defeated Germany and the attitude of German writers of different generations and political views to the trage-dy in comparison with the position of the winner-countries curators.
