The key to deciphering this work is to play at all artistic levels. His hero chooses roles, in one life he can change several scenarios, but some key moments remain unchanged in these roles: old age, illness, love, death. Complex and multifaceted phenomenon of the game is considered by the writer, first of all, from the point of view of the multi-variant development of the game plot.

French literature of the XIXth century produces contrasting types of people of science, reflecting different points of view on scientific progress. The article deals with the work of the French writer Villiers de l’Isle-Adam in the context of the confrontation of various aesthetic and literary trends at the second half of the XIXth century in France. Being a strong opponent of the positivist approach to the humanitarian aspects of knowledge, Villiers creates a satirical image of a scientist- positivist who tries to look into the Infinity «through the keyhole».

Australian lexicography peculiarities from the beginning up to the present moment are studied in the article. First Australian dictionaries were glossaries, their
authors were not professional lexicographers, dictionary microstructure can be characterized by laconic manner. Nowadays the situation is completely different. Dictionary microstructure includes not only a head word and its definition but various components such as illustrative examples and labels. In the 21st century electronic and Internet-based dictionaries appear. More than that first Australian English dictionaries in Russian lexicography start to appear.

The article examines the diachronic process that happened in the names of the months. Based on the analysis of the East Slavic names of the spring months
both similarities and differences of the kindred languages are revealed. One of the differences is caused by the semantic shift, which occurred in the inner form of those lexemes due to extralinguistic factors.

The article deals with ambiguity in political media discourse as exemplified by publications on the events in the Kerch Strait in 2018. It describes the difference
between the meaning and sense, polysemy and ambiguity, and defines the phenomenon under study. By the example of the word “aggression” the paper illustrates its dictionary definitions, as well as various contexts in media discourse; it emphasizes different cases of pragmatically driven ambiguity and its evaluative characterizing function and function of attention attraction and image creation.

The article shows that the transformation of the German language historical anecdote into the format of a language everyday anecdote is not a frequent phenomenon that has only one vector of development, namely: the language historical anecdote is transformed by the national consciousness into the format of a language everyday anecdote. The article deals with the transformation accompanied by the acquisition of a plot of anonymity, changing / not changing of its compositional format, compacting of the text canvas.

The given paper presents a detailed linguocultural and poetological analysisof the nouns denoting “sky” in the Old English epic poem Beowulf. The paper
studies semantic characteristics of the Old English nouns denoting “sky”, namely heofon, rodor, wolcen, swegl. The meanings of these nouns are defined and specified, their etymology and such peculiarities of Old English poetry as alliteration and synonymy being taken into consideration. Despite Christian influence that resulted in replacing old pagan concepts by new ones, some Old Germanic space concepts, that of the “sky” among them, survived in the poem Beowulf. To discover those, one can compare Old English poetry with Old Norse literature that preserved ancient concepts best of all.
